Zooz is currently controlled (we don't say regulated) with 3u b.i.d. of NPH. He is on a high protein/low carb diet. (Eating Fancy Feast low carb varieties and Purnia DM Dry.) The DM Dry has been a miracle as far as flattening out a somewhat steep curve. Zooz' numbers are now fantastic ***anti-jinx***! He has pre-shots in the mid-200's and peaks anywhere from the high 80's to the low 100's. His coat is beautiful and the litter box is no longer a swamp!

Josie was just short of 9 years old when she was originally diagnosed in MA. We moved back to KY 05/02, and she was finally 'regulated' around 09/02. Unfortunately, she has gained back all of the weight she had lost and then some. I am very interested in getting her weight down and eventually lowering her dosage. My little guy was 12 when he was diagnosed with diabetes and FIV pos. I did not know all his life he was FIV pos....it came as a shock but he did well. Between the diabetes, FIV, asthma and heart murmur he lived for 14 years.  He was a fighter..we were very close.....he let me do anything but not the vets..so I did all his curves and such....His asthma was well controlled the last year and half of his life....he was off the prednisone for over a year.....he had so many complications and yet we dealt with it all....it is work but so worth it.  I would gladly do it all over again to help him.......he had a great loving personality.......I had him on some supplements which I am sure helped him.

Darla has had bouts with DKA as a result of her high ketones. She is trying to get regulated on BR PZI. Still not there as of January '03. Feeding Wellness and some varieties of Fancy Feast canned as well as Purina DM dry. Darla's PU/PD has never gotten better and she's always HUNGRY!!!!!

Our vet wasn't familiar with D/M. Recommended w/d when we told her we thought the k/d had trigged the diabetes symptoms. We opted for regular (higher protein) canned food, and found that insulin was no longer needed.

Dot has no other health problems. She has never been on any steroids, maybe just a little overweight. She turned 4 in April (2003). Currently, I am feeding canned Friskies Special Diet (only the low carb flavors)I feed it two times a day, but there is always some availabe in the dishes...just in case anyone (I have 8 cats)gets the munchies and Dot seems to know when she needs to eat.

BJ was born in the spring of 1987, and has suffered from urinary tract disease (FUTD), formerly called Feline Urinary Syndrome (FUS) since he was two years old. He was diagnosed with diabetes in June, 2000 at the age of 13 when he developed one more Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) and his urine sample was found to be full of sugar. 

We test his BG at home, and an early sign of UTI is that the insulin seems to "stop working." At that point I collect a urine sample from him (he lets me stick a plant saucer under him when he's in the litter box), and drop it at the vet so she can check for white cells, blood, and germs. The availability of "drop off urinalysis" has saved him a lot of uncomfortable trips to the vet, and lets us start antibiotics right away if needed, instead of having to wait until I can take him in.

Bootsie was disgnosed at age 8, 14 lbs. He has only been on insulin for 2 months, but seems to be doing better. Am looking for other sugar-cat owners in my area who have found a GREAT Vet, one who encourages home-testing, etc. Am also looking for Recipes for homemade high protein foods to get this cat regulated. I'm finding it hard to find good quality cat food with low carbs that Bootsie will eat...(he's secretly holding out for the Turkey breast I give him when he won't eat the other junk!)

Buffy (“The Cool Dude Cat”) is the King of the Hill, likes to bully his three younger sisters. He had a tough life, having been dropped along side a road with littermate before eyes were even open, and we were lucky enough to have him enter our lives when he was 10 months old. He loves to be on a lap, any lap, and will be a magnet to anyone who dislikes (yeah, they don’t know what they’re missing) or has allergies to cats. He can purr so loudly you think he’ll rattle himself apart-didn’t purr until we’d had him for 6 months. Reflections from watch faces, flashlight beams are favorites for him to chase. He and his sisters made the move with us to NC from NYS in April, 2000-over 800 miles-with no problems

Sung went to cat heaven in Jan. 2003. he suffered for two years with IBD, CRF, diabetes, high thyroid, triad disease, lymphoma and finally in the end, bone cancer.

We medicated him with a variety of pills, added supplements to his food, changed his food to wellness, gave him sub-q liquids. He was nursed until his very last days on earth. he went peacefully at the vets days only days before he would have expired on his own in pain. We miss him a great deal. our new adult Leo has made a wonderful adjustment to his new home and the girls are enjoying his company. I adopted Lucy from a local shelter 5 years ago. Her former owner left her to fend for herself outside for 2 months. SHe weighed 4 lbs at the age of 2, was loaded with fleas, ear mites, had intestinal worms, was NOT spayed and was a wreck!! We got her all fixed up and she her weight went up to 12 lbs. She had been fine until December when I noticed she was losing weight and her coat looked dull. Thats when we discovered she had diabetes. I love her so much and in the process of regulating her, so wish me luck. SHe is so good for her BG samples and injections........Thanks to all that helped me so far. :)

Simba is also a very large cat...20 pound orange tabby. He's only 8 years old. He also has a chronic condition with constipation. His colon is stretched with not normal elasticity. We have to give him frequent enemas. My doctor doesn't sound too hopeful for Simba because of his size and constipation problem. We also do not know how we're going to pay for all of this.

French Fry is responding very well so far to the insulin. She had ketones and fatty liver at dx. The ketones are gone - and my vet feels that the liver is returning to normal function. He's going to do another organ function test in a few weeks. I'd love to meet anyone local who is willing to help me learn about home testing.

We're "newbies." Giz was originally diagnosed with diabetes and ketones (no sign of pancreatitis). Had about 1-2 hours to deal with this while entering the real dark side... She's home -- God bless an ornery cat! We're learning and hopefully improving...

13 years old, I acquired him as a diabetic, and he JUST got diagnosed with cardiomyopathy also. Working to get him on some homeopathic remedies, we have been having some success with silicea, but you need to work with a vet on these. I have used Jill Elliot, also out of Manhattan.
